Every device starts with a precise 3D scan or traditional cast of your residual limb — so your socket fits well from the first fitting. We are not a walk-in clinic; all appointments are scheduled in advance, and we offer mobile service so we can come to your home, care facility, or another convenient location.

My socket is uncomfortable — who can evaluate the fit?

A poorly fitting socket is one of the most common concerns for prosthesis users. Skin breakdown, pressure points, pistoning, and general discomfort are signs that a socket evaluation may be needed. David T. Hughes can assess your current device, discuss what is causing the problem, and recommend adjustments, a new socket, or a different suspension system. We use Artec Eva 3D scanning technology to capture precise measurements, which helps create sockets that fit more accurately than traditional methods alone.

What prosthetic options are available for my level of amputation?

We fit custom prosthetics for a wide range of amputation levels. Below-knee (transtibial) prostheses use a custom socket paired with a prosthetic foot suited to your activity level. Above-knee (transfemoral) prostheses can include microprocessor knee options for a more natural gait. Partial foot prostheses protect the residual anatomy and restore a natural walking pattern. Can I get a custom cosmetic cover for my prosthesis?

Yes. We design and fabricate custom cosmetic covers for prosthetic devices — from realistic skin-tone covers matched to your complexion, to bold artistic designs that express your personality. Covers are created using 3D scanning and computer-aided design, and can be made from silicone, foam, carbon fiber, or 3D-printed materials. A cosmetic cover does not change the function of your prosthesis, but many people find that a cover that looks and feels right makes a meaningful difference in how they feel about their device.

I want to run, play sports, or stay active — what devices exist?

Limb loss does not have to end an active lifestyle. We provide sports-specific prosthetics and orthotics including carbon fiber running blades for below-knee and above-knee amputees, sports ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs) for athletes with foot drop or ankle instability, waterproof components for swimming, and activity-specific devices for cycling, hiking, and other pursuits. We work with you to understand your sport and your goals, and recommend components designed for performance rather than everyday walking.

What is a myoelectric hand or arm, and am I a candidate?

Myoelectric prostheses use sensors that detect electrical signals from your residual muscles to control a motorized hand, wrist, or elbow. They can restore a meaningful range of grip patterns and hand functions for people with upper extremity limb loss. Whether a myoelectric device is appropriate depends on your amputation level, residual muscle activity, lifestyle, and goals. We evaluate each patient individually and explain the realistic capabilities and limitations of myoelectric technology so you can make an informed decision.

Can someone help me walk better with my prosthesis?

Gait training is an important part of prosthetic rehabilitation. Learning to walk naturally, safely, and efficiently with a prosthetic leg takes practice and professional guidance. We provide gait training as part of the fitting process and as a standalone service for people who already have a prosthesis but want to improve their walking pattern, reduce fatigue, or build confidence on different surfaces and terrain.

Can a prosthetist come to me?

Yes. Mobile service is one of our core offerings. We travel throughout Orange County — including Fullerton, Anaheim, Santa Ana, Irvine, Huntington Beach, Long Beach, and surrounding communities — to provide prosthetic evaluations, fittings, adjustments, and follow-up care at your home, a skilled nursing facility, a rehabilitation center, or another location that works for you.
